Before beginning the procedure, two things are required:
1. Either you or the user must have the phone in hand.
2. The phone must have been enrolled in DEP by AT&T. Please ask IT Team (MAAC dedicated) to check if you’re not sure. You will want to provide them the phone’s serial number.
STEPS
1. In Meraki, go to the appropriate network. This is North County Devices for North County and iOS Devices Chula Vista for South County.
2. On the left-hand side, go to Systems Manager, and under Manage, select DEP.
3. Under Apple Device Enrollment Program, change the DEP server to MAAC iPhones.
4. There are three DEP enrollment statuses:
Empty means that a profile hasn’t been assigned to the device.
Assigned means that a profile has been assigned, but hasn’t been pushed to the phone.
Pushed means that a profile has been assigned and has been pushed to the phone.
5. You will need to have the phone’s serial number at this point, as at this stage, that is the only way to search for it; the phone number doesn’t show up until after the phone has the profile on it.
6. Usually, the phone will be in Assigned status when you first go into Meraki, but if the profile is in Empty status, check the box next to it and click on Assign Settings up above.
7. In the box that opens, make sure that Choose settings is set to Existing. Select MAAC iPhone Profile (the only profile choice available) from the drop-down menu. After that, click Assign at the bottom.
8. This may take a few minutes to go through and you will need to refresh to see if it updates.
9. Once ready, either turn on the phone for the first time if new or if it’s been turned on before, go on the phone to the Settings app then General -> Reset -> Erase all content and settings.
10. Once the phone is turned on/reset, you will need to go through the initial set-up prompts until you get to a page that says to allow remote management. Select to do so. It will often say that the phone is managed by MAAC. Wait for initialization of remote management to complete.
Note: If the remote management page doesn’t come up during initial set-up, reset the phone and when going through the initial set-up again, don’t connect it to the WiFi. This should bring up the remote management page this time.
11. After that completes, you can continue to go through the initial set-up prompts. Please make sure to select to Enable Location Services.
12. Once the phone gets to the home screen, the profile will start to push to the phone. This will take a few minutes. You will know when this is completed when
a. The profile status changes from Assigned to Pushed in Meraki (you will need to refresh).
b. The phone background will change to white with the MAAC logo on it.
13. Once the phone is at the home screen, you will want to edit the phone settings so it will have the right name and tags. The phone name at this point in Meraki will most likely be iPhone device. Click on the name link for the phone.
14. Click where it says Edit Details.
15. There are two lines to edit here:
a. Change the Name field to the user’s name or whatever was requested for it to be named.
b. Add the needed tags in the Tags box by clicking on the drop-down menu. What tags are used depends on whether this is a North County or South County phone and vary over time and who needs it, but the three that both networks need are the following: MAAC, iPhones, recently-added.
c. If the phone is in the wrong network, click where it says Change Network and select the right one from the drop-down menu.
After that, click Save. It will take a few minutes for this to update and you will need to refresh to see the change.
16. This will start to download the apps tied to the tags you added. You will need to wait for all of them to complete installing. After this stage, the profile set-up is completed.
