Section titled “Purpose:”Please use this WI to help install newer versions of QuickBooks within the GPW server environment. Major updates occur annually for their RDS Session Hosts. This WI includes steps for the following scenarios:

IMPORTANT: For routine maintenance requests please open up all QuickBooks Desktop Accountant & Enterprise Solution versions on each session host, starting from the most recent versions and working your way down until their are no pop-ups for updates!

IMPORTANT: For annual or Major Updates, follow steps to obtain QuickBooks Desktop Accountant 20XX and QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Solutions 2X.0

QuickBooks is installed and needs to be updated on the following servers/session hosts:

Routine Maintenance (scroll further down for New Version Installs section):
Section titled “Routine Maintenance (scroll further down for New Version Installs section):”- Client or vITM will send an email request QuicBooks updates (example email)
- Login to the Connection Broker GPWRDSCB1 and block all connections to the host servers. To do that open Server Manager > Remote Desktop Services > Collections > Host Servers.
- Right click GPWRDSSH3 thru SH9 and select the “do not allow new connections…” button then select OK.
- Next make sure all users are logged off.
- You will need to connect to GPWRDSSH5 server in order to log off users from that host.
- From server manager, look at Connections, find any user other than yourself and right click and log off. All users from the RDS servers must be logged off to continue to next step.
- NOTE: You should send them a message (right click user, send message) and ask they save their work and log off. Give them a few minutes, if they do not log off themselves, then force them out. They should know to be off the server if this was scheduled maintenance.
- Login to each Session Host (Reference Completion Criteria) via Screenconnect or NCentral to run updates on each Session Host.
- Update QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions & Quickbooks Premier Accountant starting with the latest version and working down until there are no updates available.

- To update QuickBooks go to Help > Update QuickBooks > Update Now > Get Updates

Close Quickbooks out, wait approx. 20 seconds for process to finish closing out

Re-open same version and if prompted click install now.

If you get an error, close the error, wait a minute and try again.
New Version Installs:
Section titled “New Version Installs:”- Login to the Connection Broker GPWRDSCB1 and block all connections to the host servers. To do that open Server Manager > Remote Desktop Services > Collections > Host Servers.
