Install Avalara Connector for QuickBooks Desktop

Pre-Req
- Install any Windows operating system updates.
- If the QuickBooks Desktop is in multi-user mode, make sure all the users - including you - are logged out.
Steps
- On Avalara’s website, go to Settings > Integrations.
- On the Manage integration tab, go to the tile for Connector for QuickBooks Desktop.
- Click See Connector Versions > Download next to the latest version.
- Extract the contents of the .zip file you downloaded from Avalara.
- Run the .exe file to begin the installation wizard.
- Follow the prompts to install Connector for QuickBooks Desktop and then select Finish when the installation is done.
- Install the connector on each workstation you want to connect to Avalara AvaTax.
Establish a connection between QuickBooks Desktop and Avalara AvaTax

Pre-Req
- Have your AvaTax username and password with you.
- If you haven’t created a company profile in AvaTax, create one now.
Steps
- Right-click the QuickBooks Desktop icon and select Run as Administrator.
- When QuickBooks Desktop opens, make sure it’s running in single-user mode.
- Open the company you want to connect to the company profile you created in AvaTax.
- The QuickBooks Desktop - Application Certificate box opens.
- Select Yes, Whenever This QuickBooks Desktop Company File Is Open, select Continue, and then select Done.
- The Connector setup wizard opens.
- Follow the prompts to connect to AvaTax.
- Enter your AvaTax username and password and select Next.
- Optional: For an extra level of security, select Advanced Options. Enter your AvaTax account number and license key.
- Choose the company profile you want to associate with your company in QuickBooks Desktop and select Next.
- If you have only one company, it’s selected automatically (you don’t need to complete this step).
- Assign your customer transactions to AvaTax for tax calculation.
- To assign all of your customers to the AvaTax tax item, select Next.
- To use a tax item you previously assigned to your customers in QuickBooks Desktop, uncheck the assignment you want to retain.
- When you assign the AvaTax tax item to customers, QuickBooks Desktop sends their transactions to AvaTax for tax calculation.
