REQUIREMENTS

Access to Lucid Charts

STEPS

  1. If this is for a client, create the diagram under Client Network Diagrams folder in Lucid
  2. Clients with multiple sites need to have a single diagram with multiple pages ( 1 for each site) within the diagram
  3. Add client logo to the top of the page
  4. Create a box that represents the building
    1. If multiple buildings in the address, create a box for each building
    2. If multiple floors and/or IDFs within the same building each floor/IDF should have its own separate box
  5. When possible, insert a good resolution picture of the actual device showing the interfaces.
  6. Keep in mind that the goal is to keep the diagram organized so that you can print it out and it is easily readable
  7. Add a cloud to represent the internet, this should be placed outside of the square
    1. If customer has another technology such as dark fiber or MPLS add separate cloud to represent that specific technology
  8. Boundary device into the square, which can be a Firewall or router
    1. Insert picture of device
    2. Connect device to WAN via a solid line
      1. Label line with provider, such as Cox - Fiber, Spectrum - Coax and the speed that they should be getting on that circuit
    3. Connect LAN via a solid line
      1. Label line with the interfaces that are going from boundary device to LAN device (likely a switch)
    4. Create box next to the boundary device that contains the following information:
      1. Name:
      2. Model:
      3. WAN IP: / Interface
      4. LAN IP(s) / Interface
      5. Notes:
  9. Switch
    1. Insert picture of switch model
    2. Connect to boundary device via solid line
      1. Label interfaces on line
    3. Create box next to the Switch device that contains the following information:
      1. Name:
      2. Model:
      3. LAN IP(s) / Interface
      4. Notes:
    4. Any additional switches, insert picture of device, connect via solid line and add information as specified in previous step
  10. Access Points
    1. Insert picture of access point model
    2. Connect to switch device via solid line
      1. Label interfaces on line
    3. Create box next to the access point device that contains the following information:
      1. Name:
      2. Model:
      3. LAN IP(s) / Interface
      4. Notes:
    4. Any additional access point, insert picture of device, connect via solid line to switch and add information as specified in previous step
  11. UPS
    1. Insert picture of UPS model
    2. Connect to switch device via solid line
      1. Label interfaces on line that the UPS uplines to switch
    3. Create box next to the UPS device that contains the following information:
      1. Name:
      2. Model:
      3. LAN IP(s) / Interface
      4. Notes:
    4. Any additional UPS, insert picture of device, connect via solid line and add information as specified in previous step
  12. Physical Servers
    1. Insert picture of server model
    2. Connect to switch device via solid line
      1. Label interfaces on line
    3. Create box next to the Switch device that contains the following information:
      1. Name:
      2. Model:
      3. Role:
      4. OS:
      5. Memory
      6. vCPU
      7. Storage
      8. LAN IP(s):
      9. Subnet Mask:
      10. Gateway:
      11. DNS:
      12. Notes:
    4. Any additional servers, insert picture of device, connect via solid line and add information as specified in previous step
  13. Virtual Servers
    1. Insert picture of server with appropriate server stencil that shows role, such as database server or directory server
    2. If there are multiple virtual servers and a single host, arrange the virtual servers above the physical host to show that they are all hosted on a single server
      1. If multiple physical servers hosting the virtual servers, you can create a another box to contain the virtual servers within the larger overall box. Place the physical servers under the box that contains the virtual servers
      2. When virtual servers are hosted in our cloud, you can simply show the virtual servers without the physical servers
    3. Create box next to the virtual server device that contains the following information:
      1. Name:
      2. Model:
      3. Role:
      4. OS:
      5. Memory
      6. vCPU
      7. Storage
      8. LAN IP(s):
      9. Subnet Mask:
      10. Gateway:
      11. DNS:
      12. Notes:
    4. Any additional virtual servers, insert picture of device REFERENCES
